The tradition

An age-old art

Traditional Japanese embroidery is a centuries-old practice of silk and metallic threads worked on silk. Guild member and Kurenai Kai–certified teacher Kay Stanis leads two in-person workshops a year — the venue is announced with each one — guiding students through the phases of the curriculum at their own pace. Up to six phases are taught at once, but each must be completed in order.

Where we meet

The Traditional Japanese Embroidery workshops are held in person, twice a year. The venue is announced with each session — check the calendar for dates, location, and to register. We would love to have you.

Getting started

No experience needed — newcomers begin at Phase 1 and work at their own pace. Because each phase builds on the last, they’re taken in order. The workshops are taught by Guild member Kay Stanis, certified by Kurenai Kai, and are open to anyone interested.

Before you register

Sessions are registered through the Guild calendar — open the session and click Register. Phases are taken in order, so new stitchers start with Phase 1.
