Learn about the most important doll in American history - Miss Rose Percy. Her extensive wardrobe was created by pupils at Mrs. Sarah Ogden Hoffman's New York City Finishing School as a fundraiser for the 1864 Metropolitan Sanitary Fair. The Metropolitan Sanitary Fair existed to raise money for those suffering the ravages of the Civil War.
The girls asked the most prominent merchants of the day to donate fabric and accessories for Miss Rose Percy's trousseau. Exquisite fabrics came from Arnold, Constable & Co, jewels from Tiffany's and miniature furs from C.G. Gunther. The girls worked for 2 years to design, sew and embroider her wardrobe.
Stacy Handeland will share slides of Rose Percy's fabulous costumes and accessories and information about where she is today
