RETURN TO THE FULL CALENDAR
All NGM members are invited to join the Evening Needlepointers group on Thursday, February 23rd at 7pm for a lecture by Relics in Situ. Note that this is a week later than the usual monthly meeting date for Evening Needlepointers. The lecture is sponsored by the Sue Tesmer Memorial Fund, and a link to the lecture is on the Member Resources page of the NGM website.
"The Necessity of the Needle" is a discussion of needlework from early modern England in the 16th and 17th centuries. The speakers will examine extant embroideries, as well the patterns, pattern books, and other inspiration for amateur and professional needleworkers. This visually rich lecture will include a wide variety of images to explore the importance of textiles to women and society as whole.
Erin Harvey Moody and Christy Gordon Baty are Relics in Situ. They research early modern needlework to learn about the lives of women and how they contributed to their world. Through lectures and hands-on workshops, they share their findings with other historical professionals, needlework enthusiasts, and anyone else interested in culture and craft of the early modern period. For more information about them, visit https://www.relicsinsitu.com/.
Costs for this lecture are being generously funded by the Sue Tesmer Memorial Fund.
