Stacey McGowan Olson will do a presentation on the needlework collection at the DAR Museum in Washington, DC. Samplers, silk embroideries, needlework pictures along with schoolgirl paintings are known today as schoolgirl art, an important source for historical documentation.
The DAR Museum schoolgirl art collection includes about three hundred needlework examples. The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was established in 1890. Members are women who can trace their ancestry to someone who aided the cause of the American Revolution. The DAR’s three main missions are Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism. For more information visit www.dar.org.
