Bring a scrap of stitching fabric big enough to fit into your hoop or frame. You will need both hands to dive into this fun stitch. You will be glad you came to this meeting. Next we will be taking on making bullion bears and bugs.
Bring a lunch if you would like to stay and stitch until 2:00.

We are continuing to work on the beautiful Christmas Bouquet stumpwork piece featured in Inspirations #88. It is a three-dimensional sprig of holly, ivy, and winter roses attached to the top of a 3.5” (9 cm) glass bauble. The holly berries are next. You will need 4 beads, 3/8” diameter, color D red, color I brown, a beading needle, and wire.
Hopefully we can finish a couple so we can get started attaching them to the holly leaf stems. If you’ve wanted practice in working with wired elements, it’s not to late to start this project! Find a copy of the magazine or purchase a digital pattern at https://tinyurl.com/466yudd3.

We are back to hybrid meetings! Please join either online or in person at MVUUF. This month we will share our progress (if any), because we know life gets in the way. We will talk about what keeps us from progressing. What are your roadblocks? Are they external – family, health, job? Or are they internal – newer shinier projects, spring fever, general procrastination? Or is it the project itself – too hard, too boring, takes too much time?
If you missed the SOTM launch but would still like to participate, it’s never too late! We continue to have people join in every month. This activity is open to all members - whether you stitch on canvas, linen, wool, or just want to stitch with friends. To join in the SOTM, send Viki B. a photo of your project at vikianddave@comcast.net, and we’ll add you to our Stitch of the Month group. Come stitch!
This group explores a wide variety of specialty threads and stitches on canvas including counted needlepoint and finishing techniques. All stitchers welcome.
LOCATION: Meeting In Person and by videoconference. Members will find a link on the Member Resources page.
Salley Mavor is a visual artist who wrote the Wee Folk series. She will talk about her 45-year career creating imaginative miniature worlds with 3-dimensional embroidery. This is an opportunity to take a behind the scenes peek at Ms. Mavor’s unique way of working and learn about where it came from, how it’s evolved, and why she does it. See more about her work at https://weefolkstudio.com
The presentation will cover a wide range of artistic endeavors, from children’s book illustration to stand alone artwork to stop-motion animation, demonstrating that there are no limits to what can be expressed with a needle and thread.
Jane Tracy is bringing in her collection of books, illustrated by Sally Mavor, with photos of her embroidered creations. If you have any books with photos of embroidered illustrations, or any children's books that use needlework, quilting, or fabric, as part of their illustrations, please bring them to this meeting. This is also a challenge check-in meeting. Bring your challenge piece to show your progress or sign up for a 2025 challenge.

Bugs and Bears and Ants - Oh My! This month's program is going to be more fun than a barrel of honey. We will revisit bullion knots and formulas to create some fun picnic companions. Bring your discoveries to share with your stitching friends. Bring charts for bears, bees, ants, and lady bugs.
Last month we discussed our roadblocks to progress. This month, we will share ideas on how to motivate ourselves and continue to make progress on our projects. By now we should all be about a quarter of the way toward completing our project. Bring some great ideas for motivation, dedication, and rewards for a job well-done! This activity is open to all members—whether you stitch on canvas, linen, wool, or just want to stitch with friends.
Bring patterns and ideas to share featuring bears to stitch for this year’s retreat theme, “Teddy Bears’ Picnic”. It could be for name tags or anything else.
